CrossWalk is an interactive subway map & cross-street calculator for NYC commuters. Feed it an address like “1337 Broadway” and it will produce the cross-street (approximately 35th st., btw). There’s also a gorgeously rendered, scrollable subway map.

Lets face it: there are multiple NYC “map apps” on the appstore - why choose ours?

A) We have the best maps. Drawn from satellite images by professional designers, these maps looks great at every resolution.

B) You can use this app with one hand - all controls are accessible with the thumb alone. Double-tapping zooms to any resolution - no need to pinch (…of course you can do that too if you want to).

C) Ever gotten an address like 666 5th ave and been left wondering what the cross street was? We thought so. We’ve got the solution with a built-in cross-street calculator.

D) We are New Yorkers ourselves, and we use this app EVERY SINGLE DAY.

In the land of irony, Japanese Whalers have decided to call out Animal Planet for victimizing them through the promotional efforts of a show called Whale Wars which follows the Sea Shepard Conservation Society and their attempts to disrupt whaling.

This is kind of like the bully beating up little Timmy and getting mad at the kid that goes and tells the teacher what is happening. Christ, if anything, let’s hear it for Animal Planet on bringing an issue like whaling to the masses and public spotlight.

Sure, we are the dominant species, sure, we can beat up the whale, but we also have this lucky-go-lucky paper towel of a cereberal membrane atop our spaghetti to help make conscious decisions about the difference between humanity and symbiosis over a want of whale soup and buttery makeup.

So relax there little Tokyo and go pick on somebody your own size for a change. Come to think of it, maybe it was a penis envy issue the whole time. From what I hear, whales have something to brag about.

Turns out that this Global Warming thing, well, there might be something to it. Or at least, the president of the Maldives is taking proper measures with consideration to the fact that his presidency rules over an island chain whose highest point is seven feet above sea-level.

There plan, buy some other land somewhere else and call it Maldives 2? It would by like a sequel for a country I suppose, but you know what they say about sequels.

The newly elected president of the Maldives, the island chain south of India, says his country must start saving up money to buy a new homeland, in case global warming causes sea levels to rise so much that the waves submerge the archipelago entirely.

I am often in debated with friends and family about the reality of recycling and it’s contribution to our society and our environment as a whole. I love this planet and hope to keep it around for as long as possible, so it isn’t out of some type of spite. It’s more on the level of the opportunity cost and whether or not our money/time is being spent in the right way for the best possible outcome.

I am far from decided on this subject as the educational abyss is both wide and deep, seemingly neverending sometimes. However, here are a couple important pieces in my puzzle along the way.

1. The story of recycling as a media hype and fad when it was born:
http://wasteage.com/mag/waste_garbage_barge_recycling/

2. Recycling Myths Debunked..pay attention!

Well, last night ushered in a new chapter in the history books. While I supported the change with much reasoning towards the fear of what could have been the alternative, my pragmatism leaves me conscious of the understanding that what is to come is very hazy.

I imagine that the presidency has its own ability to leave its holder of office facing challenges and decisions which he, or she even, never would have considered. The living organism that is the most powerful country in the world is beyond comprehensible complexity and changes at the cost of human lives.

Where will we be in 4 years is like the rest of the future and that past which once was future, unknown. But I must say this, my gut feels warmer and fuzzier than it has for so long. With an acceptance speech like that, I can only hope that I’ll continue to be entertained.

Here are some great shots of the man himself.

What actually changes? I mean, sure, I get the obvious discussion and note that this is less a question about my belief and faith in his being the better candidate, but more an attempt for me to delve into the consideration that my knowledge is not always beyond the stereotypical hype and common word on many issues.

For me, talking about it around the water cooler and reciting what you heard from the discussion the night prior or paraphrasing what John Stewart said on The Daily show is all well and good, but it just made me feel uncomfortable when I found myself sitting alone with election day drawing ever so near.

So, I will be updating this page with what I find, and guessing, will probably just crack the surface by the time Obama Wins. Hope that doesn’t jinx it.

To start, I figured I’d go here:

http://origin.barackobama.com

I found the following list of issues (very vague, but hey, it needs to be short for the average joe (bad pun) right.)

A major new global prize celebrating the work of both professional and amateur photographers has been awarded in Paris.

The Prix Pictet is the first competition of its type to focus on the global issue of ’sustainability’ - and, this year in particular, on water.

The winner of 100,000 Swiss francs (£53,000) is the Canadian photographer Benoit Aquim.
