New forms of osmosis marketing…psycho consumerism
Couple notes to open here…I think I just coined the term “Osmosis Marketing” and I love it and I am guessing that “Psycho Consumerism” has been around for a while, but if not, point on that one too.
It was interesting to me to see how someone could use the rollout of a phone and the massive wave of hype surrounding it to gain free marketing. Albeit, this is marketing for a good cause with their ideals for sustainable and eco-friendly agriculture but it’s marketing all the same. It isn’t a step much farther to imagine competing brands using the release of competing brand products to push their own agendas or even in closer proximity, complimentary goods pushing their wares in the midst of a market release.
I could see major brands like coke or pepsi taking advantage of this type of marketing. I mean, for one it’s free relatively, two, it’s a pre-targeted demographic of potential customers. If you make iPod covers or headests this is a gold mine. You would know where the stores are, have the customers lined up and bored waiting for the store to open and totally engaged to have every cool new thing that goes with their golden prize. Just bring the credit card machine with you and it’s k’ching.
